Terms of use

These terms govern access to Commonfold. They are written to preserve a simple exchange: you keep ownership of your content, and you give us the limited permission needed to operate the service for you.

1. The agreement

By creating an account or using Commonfold, you agree to these terms and the privacy notice. If you use Commonfold on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for it. You must be at least 16 years old to use the service.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity performed through your account. Give us accurate account information, tell us promptly about suspected unauthorized access, and do not share credentials in a way that bypasses the product's access controls.

3. Your content

You retain ownership of content you place in Commonfold. You give us a limited, non-exclusive permission to host, copy, process, index, transmit, and display that content only as needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the service for you.

You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed for the content you upload or share, including personal data about other people. You can export a space as Markdown and delete your account from the application. Solo spaces you own are deleted with the account; a shared space requires ownership transfer so other members do not lose their work.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use Commonfold to:

  • break the law, infringe another person's rights, or facilitate harm;
  • access accounts, spaces, notes, or systems without authorization;
  • distribute malware, probe the service disruptively, or evade usage controls;
  • misrepresent AI-generated material as authoritative where doing so could cause harm;
  • resell or systematically extract the service without written permission.

5. AI-assisted features

Commonfold uses probabilistic AI systems. Suggestions, classifications, links, transcriptions, memories, and answers may be inaccurate or incomplete. Review important output before relying on it. Commonfold is not a substitute for professional legal, medical, financial, or other regulated advice.

6. Sharing and collaboration

You control the people and links you authorize to access content. Anyone with an active capability link may use the access it grants, so share it carefully and revoke it when no longer needed. Collaborators may create edits and comments that become part of the shared record.

7. Service changes and availability

Commonfold is an evolving service. Features may change, be added, or be discontinued. We aim to communicate material changes and avoid removing access to your data without a reasonable export opportunity. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

8. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Commonfold at any time. We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to prevent harm, secure the service, comply with law, or address a material breach of these terms. Where practical, we will explain the issue and allow an opportunity to resolve it.

9. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Commonfold is provided “as is” and without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We are not responsible for decisions made solely from AI output, content supplied by users, or services outside our control.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits mandatory consumer rights. Any other liability is limited to the extent permitted by applicable law.

10. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service develops. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice. Questions about these terms can be sent to legal@commonfold.space.
